Symptoms may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language, which are severe enough to reduce a person’s ability to perform everyday activities . A person with dementia may also experience changes in mood or behavior.
 Dementia is caused by damage to nerve cells (neurons) in the brain that slows down normal functioning and can cause cell death . Dementia is more common among older adults . It affects more women since they tend to have a longer life expectancy than men (16% of women versus 11% of men)
